How to Equate a Credit Score’s Worth in Other Countries

The U.S. is the only country that uses a credit score, which makes understanding its equivalent kind of tricky. So how do you figure out your standing when visiting other countries?

Here are a few examples.

  1. Japan uses an unofficial credit scoring system that’s just between you and the banks.
  2. U.K. uses a credit scoring system through Equifax, Experian, and Callcredit (Noddle).
  3. The Netherlands tracks those with unpaid debts and reports them to the Bureau Krediet Registratie (BKR).
  4. Canada’s system is most like the U.S.’s.
  5. Spain tracks good credit, but similar to the Netherlands, tracks and blacklists those with unpaid debts.
