How to Equate a Credit Score’s Worth in Other Countries
The U.S. is the only country that uses a credit score, which makes understanding its equivalent kind of tricky. So how do you figure out your standing when visiting other countries?
Here are a few examples.
- Japan uses an unofficial credit scoring system that’s just between you and the banks.
- U.K. uses a credit scoring system through Equifax, Experian, and Callcredit (Noddle).
- The Netherlands tracks those with unpaid debts and reports them to the Bureau Krediet Registratie (BKR).
- Canada’s system is most like the U.S.’s.
- Spain tracks good credit, but similar to the Netherlands, tracks and blacklists those with unpaid debts.
