Credit Cards Will Not Need Signatures Soon Anymore
As credit card technology advances, we’re at a point where the signatures will no longer be needed reports NPR. Mastercard, Discover, Visa, and American Express have all announced that they’ll stop requiring signatures for credit cards in an effort to reduce fraud.
Mastercard was the first company to announce that they were going to be cutting the process out. American Express took it a step further to eliminate signatures worldwide. This will speed up the check out process and help with fraud.
“Some credit card companies had already started phasing out signature requirements — when it announced the change, Mastercard said 80 percent of store transactions in North America didn’t require a signature,” NPR said. “American Express had eliminated signatures at checkout for transactions under $50 in the U.S. and had made similar moves in the U.K. and Canada.”
